How was Bergoglio in the Philippines?

I

He has already once been involved in an accidental desecration of a host, which resulted in a Eucharistic miracle, which I discuss here as possible proof of Novus Ordo being valid (Father Cekada disagrees, I posted his mail too):

deretour : Ordo Missae of Paul VI per se valid, probably

In such a case, holding a Mass (if such, if he's a real priest) where desecrations could easily happen, is highly unprudent. He might term such a thing "irresponsible" before using it of others. But what did he do in the Philippines?

1P5 : Was the Eucharist “Desecrated” At a Papal Mass in the Philippines?

II

He compared fertility to "being like rabbits":

"Some people think — excuse me for saying this — that to be good Catholics we have to be like rabbits," Pope Francis said, yet church teaching provides for "many licit ways" to limit reproduction.

I am not excusing him.

ABOARD THE PAPAL FLIGHT FROM MANILA, Philippines (CNS) — Pope Francis stressed that, despite church doctrine against contraception, Catholics fail to practice "responsible parenthood" when they have too many children.

What is "too many"? I am reminded of the film Amadeo when Joseph II tells Mozart "too many notes" and Mozart answers "which ones would you want to take away?"

Here is more on this faithlessness:

Pope: 'Responsible parenthood' doesn't mean birth control
By Alan Holdren for CNA
http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/pope-responsible-parenthood-doesnt-mean-birth-control-21274/

Asked by a German journalist if the Church would open up to birth control as a means of population control and limiting poverty, he said that the openness to life of a married couple means "responsible parenthood."

"The key word … and the one the Church always uses, and I do too, is 'responsible parenthood.' How do we do this? With dialogue," said Pope Francis.

He said that each person should work with his pastor to carry this out. He said later that Churches have marriage groups, experts and pastors, adding, "I know so many ways out there that are licit and that have helped this."

Oh, so one's pastors are to dialogue on how one avoids "too many children" and "being irresponsible"?

He actually criticised a woman for getting an eighth child - it is admitted she was according to story delivering by Caesarian section, but she said she trusted God, Bergoglio said she tempted God. I trust her judgement over Bergoglio's any day.

As you may know, I do not consider him to be a Catholic - or a Pope. Ask yourselves prudently where else the Papacy could be - vacant, a secret but Catholic Pope, or one of the other claimants. I do not think it is with him./HGL

53. And now, Venerable Brethren, we shall explain in detail the evils opposed to each of the benefits of matrimony. First consideration is due to the offspring, which many have the boldness to call the disagreeable burden of matrimony and which they say is to be carefully avoided by married people not through virtuous continence (which Christian law permits in matrimony when both parties consent) but by frustrating the marriage act. Some justify* this criminal abuse on the ground that they are weary of children and wish to gratify their desires without their consequent burden. Others say that they cannot on the one hand remain continent nor on the other can they have children because of the difficulties whether on the part of the mother or on the part of family circumstances .

Note, Pope Pius XI, who was a Pope, said:

  • There is one means, virtuous continence - not "so many ways";
  • The Christian law permits it, absolutely does NOT require it as a kind of responsibility so as not to be "like rabbits";
  • And even then only permits it conditionally, if both are really fine with it.

III, update:

There was a time in Rome when a man could say "today, though I have not gone to Church except Sundays, even during Lent, I will go to the Wednesday Mass because His Holiness is in Santa Maria Maggiore, just across the corner." Someone else in that block obviously might have such an inspiration next year when His Holiness was celebrating in Santa Maria Maggiore. There was not a very real risk of congestion, except in the pews.

I have seen how in St Nicolas du Chardonnet congestion in the pews does NOT preclude distinctiveness and grace at the Communion rail. But even when the presence of the Pope in the station Church could cause a congestion, it was not worse than a usual Sunday at St Nicolas du Chardonnet, and it involved no risk of communicants not consuming the host in front of the priest or deacon distributing God to His faithful. Even if communion then takes ten or fifteeen or twenty minutes or even half an hour during Midnight Mass of Christmas or Easter.

But there was not ever any man in Vienna or Madrid or Paris (except when Pope Pius VII came to France) who was saying "wow, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to go to the Mass of the Supreme Pontiff!"

So, there was never a Mass with six million faithful present. Now, when six million were present (supposing the number was correct), we can not be sure it was a Mass, but if it was, there was sacrilege.

Blessed Sacrament Profaned in Manila: Archbishop Villegas Responds
By Steve Skojec on January 21, 2015
http://www.onepeterfive.com/blessed-sacrament-profaned-in-manila-archbishop-villegas-responds/

Quotes from Skojec quoting the Archbishop (? no, not really, but that is another matter) and quoting people who were there, via other blog:

1

His words, as cited in the article from GMA Network, are:

“Under normal circumstances, hindi dapat mangyari ‘yon, pero extraordinary ang situation natin sa Luneta, six million people.”

He added: “Sa ganu’ng pagkakataon, kailangan nating tulungan ang isa’t isa na makatanggap ng communion.”

A literal translation of this is as follows:

“Under normal circumstances, this should not have happened, but the situation in the Luneta was extraordinary, six million people.” He added: “On this occasion, it was necessary to help each other receive communion.”

The operative word here is “kailangan” — necessary. Essentially he is saying that what happened in Luneta was not only permissible, it was necessary.

[UPDATE 2 – 1/21/15 @ 3:01 PM] Augustinus at Rorate Caeli excerpts a post on the blog Pinoy Catholic, which offers on this unfortunate information:

For those talking about being too rubricist and holier-than-thou accusation…

Here is something for you.

I have talked to some EMHCs and even nuns who were stationed at the Communion Stations. I asked them for their “experiences”.

They found Hosts in the mud!

The information is anecdotal, but if it’s true, it is precisely what I feared.
